Connected Living
While UV Designs typically leads projects from concept through completion, this project was a collaborative effort. We were engaged specifically for cabinetry design and detailing, working closely with Saltbox Design CO and the homeowners. The clear dialogue and shared vision resulted in a highly functional and successful final outcome!
Originally built in the 1990s, the home featured a compartmentalized layout typical of the era, with a wall separating the kitchen from the adjacent living spaces. While functional, the arrangement limited connection and made entertaining feel constrained.
The renovation reimagined the first floor as an open, cohesive environment that supported both daily living and gracious gathering. With the dividing wall removed, the kitchen now operates as the heart of the home, seamlessly connected to surrounding living areas.
In the kitchen, classic inset cabinetry provides the architectural foundation for the open plan. Its tailored reveals and refined proportions create a sense of structure and calm, keeping the kitchen grounded without dominating the space. The composition balances openness with intention, creating a natural rhythm between cooking, dining, and lounging.
The laundry also received a well-deserved overhaul through an integrated approach. By enlarging the footprint through a wall relocation, this once-simple laundry connecting the garage to the house was collaboratively transformed into a multifunctional mudroom that integrates laundry, pantry storage, a drop zone, and a dog feeding station.
